Visakhapatnam Steel Plant Tragedy: More Than 10 Workers Feared Dead

A major industrial accident has been reported at the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited in Visakhapatnam, where more than 10 workers are feared dead after hot metal buckets reportedly collapsed inside the SMS-2 unit.

According to initial reports, molten steel spilled across the work area following the incident, trapping workers on duty and causing severe injuries.

Accident Occurs in SMS-2 Unit

The accident reportedly took place in the Steel Melting Shop-2 (SMS-2) section of the plant. Witnesses said hot metal containers carrying liquid steel collapsed unexpectedly during operations.

Emergency response teams rushed to the site immediately and launched rescue efforts.

Rescue Operations Continue

Plant authorities, emergency personnel, and local officials are continuing rescue and recovery operations.

Several workers reportedly suffered serious burn injuries, while authorities are verifying the exact number of casualties.

Investigation Ordered

Officials have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the accident. The inquiry will examine equipment conditions, operational procedures, and workplace safety measures.

The incident has triggered concern over industrial safety standards at one of India’s largest steel manufacturing facilities.
