TMC Faces Major Split as Rebel MPs Back NDA in Lok Sabha

By South Matters Political Bureau | National Politics

A major political development has emerged in New Delhi, with a rebel group of MPs from All India Trinamool Congress reportedly extending support to the NDA in the Lok Sabha.

According to reports, nearly 20 MPs from the Trinamool Congress have written to the Lok Sabha Speaker seeking recognition as a separate group while pledging support to the BJP-led alliance on key parliamentary matters.

NDA Strength Could Rise Above 300

If the rebel faction receives official recognition, the NDA’s strength in the Lok Sabha could rise significantly.

Reports suggest the ruling alliance’s numbers may increase from 293 to 313 MPs, giving the government an even stronger position in the House.

The development comes at a time when opposition parties are attempting to regroup after recent electoral setbacks.

Rebel MPs Cite Electoral Verdict

The faction is reportedly led by senior leaders who argue that the party must accept the people’s verdict following the Trinamool Congress’s disappointing performance in West Bengal.

The group claims support from more than two-thirds of TMC’s Lok Sabha members, a figure that could strengthen its case for recognition under parliamentary rules.

TMC Leadership Yet To Respond

So far, neither Mamata Banerjee nor the party’s central leadership has issued an official response.

Meanwhile, TMC loyalists have disputed the reported numbers and claim the rebel camp has fewer MPs than it suggests.

The Lok Sabha Speaker’s office has also not commented on the matter.

Opposition Bloc Faces New Challenge

Political observers believe the move could weaken opposition coordination in Parliament and strengthen the NDA’s legislative position.

The coming days are expected to be crucial as Parliament and party leaders await clarity on the status of the rebel faction and its recognition.
