NEW DELHI: Mercedes-Benz has launched the 2026 S-Class Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) in India, introducing a new level of luxury, technology, and efficiency in the premium sedan segment.
Priced at ₹2.20 crore (ex-showroom), the new S 450 e Launch Edition is the first-ever plug-in hybrid version of the flagship S-Class to be sold in India. The German luxury carmaker says the model features more than 2,700 new or updated components, making it one of the most comprehensive upgrades in the S-Class lineup.
What makes the new S-Class stand out is its ability to travel up to 115 km in pure electric mode, allowing many owners to complete daily city commutes without using a drop of petrol. At a time when fuel efficiency and sustainability are becoming increasingly important, Mercedes-Benz is betting on plug-in hybrid technology as a bridge between conventional and fully electric vehicles.
Under the hood, the S 450 e combines a 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with an electric motor to produce a combined 435 horsepower and 680 Nm of torque. Despite its focus on efficiency, the luxury sedan can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.7 seconds.
The updated S-Class also receives a range of premium features, including the latest MBUX AI-powered infotainment system, Google Maps-based navigation, illuminated grille, advanced Micro-LED headlamps, and an upgraded safety package featuring up to 15 airbags.
Mercedes-Benz has also equipped the car with Airmatic air suspension and rear-wheel steering, enhancing both comfort and maneuverability.
With deliveries scheduled to begin later this year, the new S-Class PHEV reflects a growing trend among luxury car buyers who want high performance, advanced technology, and lower emissions in a single package.
As India’s luxury vehicle market evolves, the question is no longer whether premium buyers want greener cars—but how quickly they are willing to embrace them.
