Andhra Pradesh Approves 9 New Airports in Major Aviation Expansion Push

Amaravati, June 16, 2026:

The Andhra Pradesh government has approved plans for nine new airports across the state as part of an ambitious strategy to strengthen regional air connectivity, boost tourism, attract investments, and support economic growth.

The move is expected to significantly expand Andhra Pradesh’s aviation network and improve access to key urban, industrial, and tourism destinations.

Nine New Airports Approved

According to the proposal, the following locations have been identified for new airport development:

  • Amaravati
  • Kuppam
  • Dagadarthi (Nellore)
  • Srikakulam
  • Tadepalligudem
  • Nagarjuna Sagar
  • Tuni–Annavaram
  • Ongole
  • Palasa

The planned airports are expected to improve connectivity for residents, businesses, and tourists across multiple regions of the state.

Boost for Regional Connectivity

The Andhra Pradesh New Airports Project aims to enhance access to underserved regions and reduce travel times between major cities and emerging economic centers.

Officials believe improved air connectivity will support industrial development, encourage investments, and create new opportunities for local businesses.

Several of the proposed locations are strategically positioned near industrial corridors, tourism destinations, ports, and educational hubs.

Tourism and Economic Growth

The government expects the airport expansion initiative to strengthen tourism by improving access to religious, coastal, cultural, and eco-tourism destinations across Andhra Pradesh.

Locations such as Nagarjuna Sagar, Tuni–Annavaram, and Srikakulam could benefit from increased visitor traffic once aviation infrastructure is developed.

The project is also expected to generate employment opportunities during both the construction and operational phases.

Supporting Andhra Pradesh’s Infrastructure Vision

The approval of nine new airports aligns with the state’s broader infrastructure development strategy, which includes investments in ports, industrial parks, logistics hubs, highways, and urban development projects.

Officials say enhanced aviation infrastructure will play a key role in positioning Andhra Pradesh as a major investment and logistics destination in South India.

Transforming the State’s Aviation Landscape

If implemented as planned, the Andhra Pradesh New Airports Project would represent one of the largest regional aviation expansion initiatives undertaken by any Indian state in recent years.

The development is expected to complement existing airports at Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Tirupati, Kurnool, and Kadapa while creating a more extensive air connectivity network across Andhra Pradesh.
