CPM Launches Sharp Attack on UDF Government, Says Kerala Being Pushed Backwards

Thiruvananthapuram: The CPM State Secretariat has launched a strong attack on the UDF government, alleging that its first month in office has exposed a clear shift away from Kerala’s welfare-oriented development model. In a statement, the party claimed that the UDF administration is embracing the Centre’s globalization and privatization agenda while dismantling key policies implemented by the LDF over the last ten years. CPM alleged that the government has even avoided criticizing policies promoted by the Union government and is steering Kerala towards increased privatization.

The party also accused the government of compromising with communal forces. It pointed to recent developments in educational institutions and public affairs, claiming they reflect a growing influence of RSS-backed elements in the state. Highlighting what it called “broken promises,” CPM said several major UDF election commitments remain unfulfilled. The party cited the failure to implement the promised ₹21,000 salary for ASHA workers, free travel for women in KSRTC buses, and other welfare measures. It also alleged that pension schemes, employee benefits, and public services are being weakened.

CPM further claimed that the UDF government is under pressure from various anti-left groups that backed it during the elections. According to the party, this influence is visible in several administrative and policy decisions taken during the government’s first month.

Stating that the LDF had transformed Kerala and reduced extreme poverty during its tenure, CPM warned that the UDF’s policies could reverse many of those gains. The party called on democratic and secular forces to unite against what it described as anti-people and anti-Kerala policies.

The statement marks one of CPM’s strongest political attacks on the UDF government since it assumed office, setting the stage for an intense political confrontation in the months ahead.
