The Padma Awards 2026 ceremony will take place at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on June 23. President Droupadi Murmu will confer 65 Padma Awards during the second Civil Investiture Ceremony.
This year’s Padma Awards 2026 include two Padma Vibhushan, seven Padma Bhushan, and 56 Padma Shri honours. The awards recognise individuals for their contributions to medicine, education, social service, science, arts, and public life.
Padma Awards 2026 Honours Distinguished Achievers
Among the recipients is Dr Padma Gurmet, Director of the National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa. He will receive the Padma Shri for preserving and promoting the Himalayan medical tradition.
Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Dr Gurmet said the recognition is a proud moment for him and the entire Sowa-Rigpa community in Ladakh. He added that the award highlights the importance of traditional Himalayan medicine.
Padma Awards 2026 Recognises Education and Healthcare Leaders
Another Padma Shri recipient is Dr Prabhakar Basaprabhu Kore from Karnataka. For more than four decades, he has worked to improve education in rural areas.
Under his leadership, nearly 320 schools and colleges have been established. Today, around 1.48 lakh students study in institutions run by his organisation. In addition, Dr Kore leads major healthcare and cooperative initiatives. His organisation operates a hospital network with more than 5,000 beds and several rural medical centres.
Padma Awards 2026 Celebrates Medical Contributions
Haematologist Dr Suresh Hanagavadi will also receive the Padma Shri award. He has spent nearly 40 years treating haemophilia, a rare blood disorder. As a haemophilia patient himself, Dr Hanagavadi dedicated his life to helping others with the condition. He thanked the Government of India for recognising his work and dedicated the honour to the haemophilia community.
Second Civil Investiture Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan
The first Civil Investiture Ceremony for Padma Awards 2026 took place on May 26, when President Murmu presented 66 Padma Awards. With today’s ceremony, another group of achievers will receive one of India’s highest civilian honours for their contributions to society and nation-building.
