About Us

South Matters is a digital news publication covering the five southern states of India: Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala. We report on politics, governance, public policy, elections, business, cinema and culture, with a focus on the stories that shape South India and what they mean for the people who live here.

We started South Matters in 2025 because South Indian stories are often reported from a distance, or squeezed into national coverage as an afterthought. Our aim is to cover the region with depth, context and fairness.

  • Explainers: context on policies, elections, court rulings and public issues
  • Analysis and opinion: clearly labelled pieces in our Editorial section, kept separate from news reporting
