CM Vijay Reviews Law and Order, Women’s Safety at IAS-IPS Conference in Chennai

Chennai, June 29: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Monday reviewed law and order, women’s safety, anti-drug measures and the implementation of government schemes during a high-level conference of IAS and IPS officers at the Secretariat in Chennai.

The two-day conference is the first major meeting of senior officials since the TVK government came to power. Senior IAS and IPS officers, District Collectors, Superintendents of Police, Range DIGs, IGs, Forest Department officials and DGP Shankar Jiwal attended the meeting.

Three Sessions Planned

The Chief Minister directed officials to hold the conference in three sessions. The government will review the work of 28 departments during the event.

The first session focused on law and order, public health, women’s safety, district administration, the Drug-Free Tamil Nadu campaign and the Vetri Tamilagam vision plan.

Focus on Women’s Safety

Vijay asked officials to strengthen women’s safety across the state. He reviewed measures to prevent crimes such as chain-snatching and discussed faster action against offenders.

The meeting also covered police accountability, intelligence gathering, execution of arrest warrants and monitoring of habitual offenders and people released on bail.

Officials also reviewed caste-related issues and discussed preventive steps to maintain peace.

Review of Anti-Drug Measures

The Chief Minister reviewed the Drug-Free Tamil Nadu initiative. Officials discussed awareness programmes in schools and colleges, action against illegal liquor and steps to stop the sale of banned tobacco products.

The meeting also reviewed the work of the Singappen Special Task Force, the progress of POCSO cases and cybercrimes targeting women and children.

Welfare Schemes Under Review

The second session will focus on District Collectors. Officials will review whether welfare schemes have reached the people and identify challenges in implementation.

The final session will bring together District Collectors and Forest Department officials to discuss forest protection and environmental issues.

The conference will conclude with an address by Chief Minister Vijay. He is also expected to honour District Collectors, police officers and Forest Department officials for their outstanding service.
