Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala rain alert continues on Tuesday as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts heavy rain in many parts of the State. The IMD has issued an Orange Alert for Kannur and Kasaragod. It has also issued a Yellow Alert for Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad.
Heavy Rain Likely in Several Districts
The IMD expects heavy rain in many places. Some areas may also receive very heavy rain. Thunderstorms with lightning may occur in isolated places. Strong winds of 40 to 50 kmph may also affect several districts. In some places, wind speeds may touch 60 kmph.
The weather department has asked people to stay alert. It has also advised people to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain.
Weather System Behind the Rain
The IMD says a cyclonic circulation over the Arabian Sea is causing the rain. Another cyclonic circulation remains active over north Telangana and nearby areas. These weather systems will bring widespread rain to Kerala, Mahe, and Lakshadweep until July 3.
The department expects very heavy rain in a few places on Tuesday. Heavy rain may continue across many districts over the next few days.
Fishermen Asked Not to Venture into the Sea
The IMD has asked fishermen to stay away from the sea. Rough weather and strong winds continue along the Kerala, Lakshadweep, and Karnataka coasts.
Winds may blow at 40 to 50 kmph. Some areas may see gusts of up to 60 kmph. Similar weather is likely over parts of the Arabian Sea, the Gulf of Mannar, and the Andaman Sea.
Authorities Urge People to Stay Safe
The State government has asked people in low-lying and landslide-prone areas to remain careful. Local authorities are watching the situation closely. They will issue fresh alerts if the weather changes.
The Kerala rain alert will remain in force as the southwest monsoon stays active. People should follow official weather updates and take all safety precautions.
