Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher criticised the Centre, alleging that discussions on the proposed trade agreement were being held without consulting farmer organisations.
He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make the details of the negotiations public and involve farmers in the decision-making process.
The protesters said they wanted clarity on how the agreement could affect India’s agriculture sector.
Haryana Police Stop March
Haryana Police stopped the march by placing heavy barricades at the state border.
Reports said farmer leader Gurnam Singh Charuni was detained during the protest as authorities tried to prevent the march from reaching Delhi.
Security was tightened at key entry points to avoid disruptions.
Government Responds
Government officials said the proposed trade agreement would protect sensitive sectors, including dairy, while focusing on increasing India’s export opportunities.
The one-day mahapanchayat at Kisan Ghat was organised to express farmers’ concerns without launching an indefinite sit-in protest.
