Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s Anwar Ibrahim breakfast meeting with Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, a Congress MP and General Secretary, added a political note to his BRICS visit. It took place in New Delhi on Sunday, September 13, 2026, the final day of the 18th BRICS Summit.
The Congress party shared photos on X showing the leaders in warm conversation, including a handshake between Rahul Gandhi and Anwar Ibrahim. The breakfast capped off a packed schedule that saw Anwar attend the summit as a representative of Malaysia’s BRICS partner-country status, join a session on inclusive global governance, take part in a tree-plantation drive, and attend Modi’s gala dinner.
Anwar also held bilateral talks with Modi, as well as Ethiopia’s Abiy Ahmed Ali, Iran’s Masoud Pezeshkian, and Russia’s Vladimir Putin. During his meeting with Modi, the two leaders reviewed India-Malaysia cooperation across trade, investment, defence, semiconductors, infrastructure, the digital economy, energy, fintech, education, and tourism. Anwar also confirmed Malaysia’s agreement to let India open a Consulate General in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
Anwar is set to travel next to Kerala to meet India’s Grand Mufti, with talks expected to cover community development, education, and religious affairs.
