The family photo followed the adoption of the New Delhi Declaration 2026, the summit’s key joint statement. Leaders also took part in a tree-plantation activity together at Bharat Mandapam shortly after.
What the New Delhi Declaration Covered
The declaration voiced concern over escalating tensions in West Asia, calling for restraint and the protection of civilians in line with the UN Charter. It also urged an unhindered ceasefire and humanitarian access in Gaza.
On global governance, China and Russia, as permanent UN Security Council members, reiterated support for Brazil and India to play a greater role at the UN, including within the Security Council. The declaration also praised India for hosting the Outreach/BRICS Plus Dialogue segment of the summit.
A Recurring BRICS Tradition
The family photo is a fixture of every BRICS summit. It echoes similar group portraits from past summits, including the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 2025, and this year’s earlier BRICS Business Forum photo in New Delhi featuring Modi, Putin, and other leaders alongside business and trade officials.
