Harmanpreet Kaur Steps Down as India Women’s Cricket Captain

Harmanpreet Kaur has stepped down as captain of the India women’s cricket team across all formats. The 37-year-old cricketer announced her decision after leading the team through an important period in Indian women’s cricket. Her tenure included India’s first Women’s World Cup title and two Asian Games gold medals.

Harmanpreet also built a strong record in T20I cricket during her time as captain. She became one of India’s leading batters and set records for the most T20I runs as captain. Her leadership played an important role in the team’s growth across different formats.

The captain said stepping down was a difficult decision. However, she said she believes the move will help the team prepare for its future. Her decision followed a recent review meeting involving vice-captain Smriti Mandhana and head coach Amol Muzumdar.

The announcement has brought an end to an important chapter in Harmanpreet’s career. She took charge during a period when Indian women’s cricket continued to gain more attention and support. Under her leadership, the team competed in major international tournaments and achieved several important results.

Fans and cricket journalists have described the decision as the end of an era for Indian women’s cricket. Harmanpreet remains an important figure in the team, and her experience could continue to play a role in the squad.

Meanwhile, attention has turned to the question of India’s next captain. Smriti Mandhana is widely being discussed as a possible successor because of her experience and role as vice-captain. The Board of Control for Cricket in India is expected to make the next leadership decision.

Harmanpreet’s departure from the captaincy marks a major change for the India women’s team. The focus will now shift towards building the next leadership group while maintaining the progress made during her tenure.
