A fresh voter-list controversy has emerged in Hyderabad after police registered an FIR against a BJP booth-level agent over an alleged attempt to remove the names of 30 voters from the electoral rolls.
The incident was reported in the Musheerabad Assembly constituency. According to reports, pre-printed Form-7 applications were submitted seeking deletion of the names of 30 people from the voter list.
Form-7 is used to request deletion of a voter’s name from an electoral roll. The applications in this case reportedly claimed that the voters had permanently shifted from their listed addresses.
Election officials later conducted a field verification. The verification found that all 30 voters were still residing at the addresses mentioned in the electoral records. This led to further scrutiny of the applications.
Police have registered a case against BJP booth-level agent S Balachander in connection with the alleged attempt. The investigation will examine how the forms were prepared and submitted.
The BJP has rejected allegations of a party-led voter deletion campaign. The party has maintained that the actions of an individual should not automatically be treated as an official party activity.
The controversy comes amid a wider Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Telangana. The revision process has generated political debate over voter deletions and additions.
Congress and AIMIM leaders have raised concerns about alleged attempts to remove genuine voters. BJP leaders have rejected allegations of systematic targeting and have called for proper verification of voter records.
Election officials are required to verify deletion requests before names are removed from electoral rolls. Field verification is therefore an important part of the process when questions arise about a voter’s residence.
The Hyderabad case has attracted additional attention because all 30 voters were reportedly found at their listed addresses. The development has raised questions about the source and purpose of the applications.
The matter remains under investigation. Police will now examine the documents and circumstances surrounding the alleged submission of the Form-7 applications.
The controversy is likely to remain part of Telangana’s wider debate over electoral roll revision. The final electoral list and the verification process will be closely watched by political parties and voters.
