Telangana Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has questioned why YS Jagan Mohan Reddy lost the 2024 Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections despite implementing several welfare schemes. His remarks have brought renewed attention to the role of welfare programmes, public opinion and election-related concerns in Andhra Pradesh politics. Komatireddy also referred to allegations surrounding Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), suggesting that such concerns needed attention. However, allegations about EVMs do not establish that election results were manipulated, and no such conclusion should be drawn without credible evidence.
Komatireddy also alleged that efforts were being made to remove 73 lakh voter names in Telangana during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. He said the Congress would oppose attempts to remove eligible voters from electoral rolls. The claim has raised questions about voter-list verification, the protection of eligible voters and the process followed by election authorities. The alleged figure and the circumstances surrounding the proposed deletions require verification through official records and statements from the Election Commission.
His comments have sparked political discussion across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, particularly over Jagan’s defeat despite his government’s welfare initiatives. The 2024 Andhra Pradesh election results reflected the choices made by voters, while the reasons behind the outcome involve several political and electoral factors. Any claims of irregularities must be assessed separately using verifiable evidence and official findings. The debate over voter-list revision in Telangana also highlights the importance of transparent procedures and safeguards to ensure that eligible citizens retain their voting rights.
