Tesla’s next-generation Roadster is drawing attention with an ambitious design that combines electric performance with aerospace-inspired technology. The vehicle was unveiled at SpaceX’s facility in McGregor, Texas, with three versions planned: Performance, Thrust and Rocket.
The Performance version is designed to carry two passengers, while the Thrust version features rear-mounted thrusters aimed at delivering acceleration in under one second. The single-seat Rocket version takes the concept further, with a proposed flight capability that could make it one of the most unusual sports cars ever developed.
The Roadster’s design reportedly takes inspiration from advanced aircraft such as the SR-71 and F-35. Tesla also claims that the versions will offer more than 300 miles of range and top speeds above 230 miles per hour. These figures highlight the company’s focus on combining high speed with electric vehicle technology.
Elon Musk described the vehicle as something beyond what people usually see in movies. The unveiling has raised expectations around how far Tesla can push the boundaries of automotive engineering.
Reservations are reportedly open, with production targeted for 2028. However, the final specifications, real-world performance and practical details of the proposed flight technology remain important questions ahead of production.
If Tesla delivers on its stated goals, the Roadster could offer a dramatic new vision of electric performance. For now, the biggest challenge will be turning its ambitious features into a production-ready vehicle that meets safety and engineering requirements.
