Reliance Industries has responded to recent remarks about the company and the Indian market, saying it welcomes competition and believes every company must follow India’s laws and policies. The statement comes amid growing attention on satellite internet services and the entry of global players such as Starlink into India.
In its statement, Reliance said India’s growth has been supported by an environment that welcomes investment and innovation from both Indian and international companies. It also stressed that this openness must go hand in hand with the rule of law. According to the company, the Government of India has made it clear that the same approval process applies to all applicants, whether Indian or foreign. Reliance added that Jio’s own satellite services are still awaiting the necessary clearances.
The company also pushed back against the idea that it fears competition. Reliance said competition is the best way to test which company offers better services to customers. It pointed to Jio’s entry into India’s telecom market in 2016, when the company started without any customers in an already crowded industry.
According to Reliance, Jio has since grown to serve more than 530 million customers in just ten years. The company credited its growth to digital infrastructure and affordable data services, which have changed how millions of Indians access the internet.
Reliance said it welcomes competition in satellite communications, including from Starlink. However, it maintained that every operator, including Jio, must serve Indian consumers while complying with the country’s laws and policies.
The statement highlights the growing importance of satellite internet in India’s digital future. As more companies look to enter the market, regulatory approvals, service quality, pricing and access will remain key issues for consumers. The wider competition could create more choices for users, particularly in areas where traditional internet connectivity remains limited.
For now, Reliance’s message is clear: it is open to competition, but expects the same rules to apply to every company operating in India.
