Dhanush Meets Thousands of Women Fans Amid Political Speculation in Chennai

Actor Dhanush met more than 3,000 women executives and volunteers on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at a private engineering college in Sholinganallur on the outskirts of Chennai. The gathering was for Magalir Ani, the women’s wing of the Dhanush Narpani Iyakkam, or Dhanush Welfare Movement.

The meeting follows a rebranding of his fan club, formerly called Dhanush Narpani Mandram. The new name was formally approved at an executives’ meeting in Coimbatore on October 14. The new logo shows Dhanush with folded hands inside a large red star, signalling a focus on social welfare.

Many women braved heavy rain in Chennai to attend. One fan from Villivakkam said they did not know what he would speak about but were confident it would be useful.

Dhanush has made no announcement about entering politics or forming a party. Even so, the restructuring has sparked wide discussion across Tamil Nadu, with many reading it as an effort to consolidate his supporter base and direct it toward organised social service. Earlier this year, he had also urged fans to get involved in their local communities.

For now, the movement presents itself as a welfare organisation, and whether it becomes anything more will depend on what Dhanush himself says next.
