Severe Cyclone Murasu has reportedly made landfall near Ongole in Andhra Pradesh, bringing strong winds and heavy rainfall to coastal areas.
The storm is reported to have sustained wind speeds of 100–110 kmph, with gusts reaching 120 kmph. After landfall, it is expected to move northwest towards central Andhra Pradesh districts.
Prakasam, Guntur and Krishna districts are among the areas facing the threat of extremely heavy rainfall. Rainfall estimates range from 200 to 400 mm in affected areas. Coastal regions may also face storm surges of up to 1.5 metres, raising the risk of flooding in low-lying areas.
Meanwhile, Karnataka is extending support to Andhra Pradesh’s power restoration efforts. The state is reportedly sending 500 skilled electricity workers, along with equipment, to help restore power in cyclone-affected areas. This support follows assistance provided after the previous Cyclone Arnab.
In Chennai, rainfall is expected to weaken tonight, with clearer weather conditions likely to return by November 3.
Residents in affected districts should follow official weather alerts, avoid flooded roads and follow safety instructions issued by local authorities.
