Vijay Says He Is Here to Win Tamil Nadu Politics, Not Be a Kingmaker

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam chief and actor Vijay has made it clear that his political entry is not an experiment or a temporary phase. In a detailed interaction with NDTV, Vijay spoke openly about his ideology, criticism from rivals, silence during controversies and his long term political vision.

Vijay Closely Follows News and Media

Vijay said that he follows news and media closely and regularly watches NDTV. He shared that he has watched the channel’s programs from the past and believes staying informed is essential for public life.

Silence on Criticism Is a Conscious Choice

Responding to criticism and dismissal by the DMK, Vijay said that while everyone talks about him, he deliberately chooses silence. He stated that his silence is not weakness but preparation and he will speak at the right time.

Stardom Limits Accessibility, Says Vijay

Vijay acknowledged that his stardom makes him less accessible compared to other politicians. He said the Karur incident made those limitations very clear and he is fully aware of this reality.

Next Rally Will Change the Entire Campaign

On his next rally, Vijay revealed that preparations are underway and that within a week, the entire campaign will change. He said he is raring to go and knows he has to work harder than other political parties.

No Alliance With AIADMK Because He Is Confident of Winning

When asked why he did not ally with the AIADMK, Vijay replied with confidence, saying he believes he is winning and questioned why anyone thinks otherwise. He said he has full confidence in himself.

Clear Political Commitment and No Confusion

Vijay stressed that he is not confused about his political journey. He said he has consciously decided to give up films and politics is his future. According to him, this decision was not easy but it is final.

Politics Is About People, Not Ideologies

On ideology, Vijay said he does not see himself as left, right or centre. For him, politics is about people’s issues and addressing their concerns.

Fans Will Become Cadre

Vijay expressed confidence that his fan base will transform into a strong political cadre. He said his aim is to build a movement rather than rely only on popularity.

Not a Kingmaker, Aiming to Win

Rejecting the idea of being a kingmaker in Tamil Nadu politics, Vijay said he was genuinely surprised by the question. He pointed to massive crowds at his events and said he is fighting elections to win, not to make a statement.

Leaders Who Inspire Vijay

Vijay said he admires Shah Rukh Khan for his articulation and clarity of speech. He also named MGR, Jayalalithaa and Kalaignar as leaders who achieved something meaningful and inspired him.

Short Answers Are a Misconception

Addressing criticism about giving short answers, Vijay said that he gives detailed responses whenever required and the perception is incorrect.

A Long Term Political Journey

Vijay clarified that his political entry is a long term plan. He said he has given up cinema after thirty three years and is committed to this journey for the long run.

Silence Does Not Mean Absence

On his silence during crises, Vijay said he speaks through his speeches and silence does not mean absence. He said he is constantly communicating with people in different ways.

Karur Incident Still Haunts Him

Speaking about the Karur incident, Vijay said it came as a shock and still haunts him. He explained that he needed time to process what happened before responding and does not react immediately to every situation.

Jana Nayagan Affected Due to Politics

Vijay said he feels bad for the producer of Jana Nayagan as the film is suffering due to his political entry. He added that he was mentally prepared for cinema to be affected by his political decision.

Political Thinking Started After Covid

Vijay revealed that he started thinking seriously about politics after Covid. He said his entry was not sudden and mentioned that his father being a politics director exposed him to this world early on.

Confident and Calm in Answering Questions

Responding to claims that he appears hesitant, Vijay said he answered all questions calmly and clearly. He reiterated that he has made up his mind and politics is his future.

First Interaction With National Media

Vijay said this was his first interaction with the national media and described it as a kind of mock interview. He added that although people feel he has not spoken enough, he believes he speaks continuously through his speeches.
