Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy is reportedly planning a major statewide padyatra from July 2027 as part of the YSR Congress Party’s efforts to rebuild its grassroots support ahead of the 2029 Assembly elections. According to party sources, Jagan is expected to begin the 18-month padyatra on July 8, 2027, covering a large number of the state’s 175 Assembly constituencies.
The proposed padyatra is expected to give Jagan an opportunity to directly interact with voters across Andhra Pradesh and reconnect with the party’s grassroots workers and supporters. During the campaign, the YSRCP leadership is likely to highlight the welfare schemes and development work carried out during the party’s 2019-2024 government.
The planned statewide tour is being viewed within the party as an important part of its reported “YSRCP 2.0” strategy. After losing power in the 2024 Assembly elections, the party has been focusing on strengthening its organisation and reconnecting with voters across the state.
Jagan has previously undertaken long padyatras that played an important role in building his political image and expanding his connection with voters. His earlier Praja Sankalpa Yatra covered large parts of Andhra Pradesh before the 2019 elections and helped the YSRCP build strong grassroots support.
The proposed 2027 padyatra has already generated discussion among Jagan’s supporters on social media. Some supporters are predicting large crowds and comparing the proposed programme with his earlier statewide tours. However, the actual scale and schedule of the padyatra will depend on the final plans announced by the party.
If the programme goes ahead as reported, the 18-month campaign could become one of the biggest political outreach programmes in Andhra Pradesh ahead of the 2029 elections. It would allow Jagan and the YSRCP to directly engage with voters while also giving the party an opportunity to assess its organisational strength across the state’s constituencies.
