Visakhapatnam, June 10: The YS Jagan RINL Explosion Visit drew significant attention on Wednesday as former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy met families of workers who lost their lives in the tragic explosion at the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) steel plant in Visakhapatnam.

Jagan visited KIMS Hospital and Seven Hills Hospital, where several injured workers are undergoing treatment. During the visit, he interacted with victims, family members, and hospital authorities to assess the condition of those affected by the industrial accident.

The incident occurred on June 8 at RINL’s Steel Melting Shop-1 when a ladle carrying nearly 150 tonnes of molten steel reportedly exploded. The blast claimed eight lives and left several workers with serious burn injuries.

YS Jagan RINL Explosion Visit Focuses on Victims

During the YS Jagan RINL Explosion Visit, the YSRCP president expressed condolences to the families of the deceased workers. Furthermore, he assured them of continued support during the difficult period.

Jagan also met injured workers receiving treatment and enquired about their medical care. Supporters gathered outside the hospitals and welcomed the former Chief Minister during his visit.

The tragedy has triggered widespread concern across Andhra Pradesh and renewed discussions on industrial safety standards.

Jagan Demands Additional Compensation

Following his interactions with victims’ families, Jagan demanded an additional ₹1 crore ex-gratia from the Andhra Pradesh government for each deceased worker’s family.

Moreover, he raised concerns about the circumstances that led to the accident. He alleged that issues related to raw material quality and workforce reductions may have contributed to the incident.

The former Chief Minister called for a thorough investigation to identify the exact cause of the explosion and ensure accountability.

Governments Announce Relief Measures

Both the Central and Andhra Pradesh governments have announced compensation packages for affected families.

Authorities stated that families of deceased regular employees would receive financial assistance, employment support, and medical coverage benefits. Additionally, injured workers continue to receive treatment under specialized medical supervision.

Government representatives have also assured families that all necessary support will be extended during the recovery process.

Focus on Steel Plant Safety

The accident has once again highlighted the importance of safety measures in heavy industries. Consequently, questions have emerged regarding operational protocols and risk management practices at the plant.

Meanwhile, officials have reiterated that the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant remains an important national asset. They also emphasized that recent revival measures have improved the plant’s financial position.

As investigations continue, attention remains focused on support for affected families and measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
