Bengaluru Emerges as Asia’s Second-Largest AI Hub, Enters Global Top 10 for R&D

Bengaluru: Bengaluru has achieved a major milestone in Artificial Intelligence (AI). The city now ranks as Asia’s second-best AI-native cluster. In addition, it has entered the global top 10 for research and development (R&D) performance. The recognition comes from the 2026 Global Startup Ecosystem Report (GSER). As a result, Bengaluru has further strengthened its reputation as India’s leading technology and innovation hub.

Bengaluru Climbs the AI Rankings

According to the report, Bengaluru ranks second in Asia for AI-native startup activity. Only Beijing stands ahead of the Indian technology capital. Moreover, the city continues to attract entrepreneurs, researchers, and investors from around the world. Because of this strong ecosystem, Bengaluru has become a major center for AI innovation.

AI Talent Drives Growth

Bengaluru’s biggest strength is its talent pool. The city accounts for nearly 19 percent of all AI learners in India. Additionally, it hosts around 52 percent of the country’s AI workforce.

As more professionals enter the sector, companies gain access to highly skilled talent. Therefore, startups and established firms continue to expand their AI operations in the city.

Strong Venture Capital Support

Bengaluru also attracts significant investment. Between 2021 and 2025, investors poured nearly $39 billion into startups across the city. Furthermore, a large share of this funding supported AI-focused companies. This financial backing has helped startups develop new technologies and scale their businesses more quickly.

The city has also improved its global standing in research and development. Rising patent filings and successful research commercialization contributed to this achievement.
