Keralam is expected to receive heavy rainfall over the next few days, with the India Meteorological Department issuing a yellow alert in nine districts. The warning covers the period from October 7 to October 10.
The districts under the yellow alert are Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Wayanad, Kannur, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Thrissur and Kozhikode.
The weather department has forecast daily rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm in the affected areas. Residents have been advised to remain cautious as weather conditions can change quickly.
Thunderstorms and strong winds are also possible. Winds may reach speeds of around 30 to 50 kilometres per hour in some areas.
Coastal areas have also been placed under caution because of the possibility of strong waves. The coastal stretch from Kapil to Pozhiyoor in Thiruvananthapuram and parts of the Kanyakumari coast may experience rough conditions.
Fishermen and coastal residents have been advised to remain alert. People should avoid entering the sea when official warnings are in place.
Residents in hilly areas such as Idukki and Wayanad should also take precautions during heavy rain. Waterlogging and localised disruptions are possible in areas that receive intense rainfall.
Travellers should check the latest weather updates before starting journeys, especially on roads that are vulnerable to flooding or landslides.
Authorities are continuing to monitor the weather situation. Residents should follow official alerts and instructions issued by the disaster management authorities.
