New Delhi: Veteran Malayalam actor Mammootty received the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award, from President Droupadi Murmu at the Civil Investiture Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday.
The award recognises Mammootty’s outstanding contribution to Indian cinema and the arts over a career spanning more than four decades. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were among the dignitaries present at the ceremony.
Family Joins Mammootty at Award Ceremony
Mammootty attended the event along with his wife Sulfath, daughter Surumi and actor-son Dulquer Salmaan. The family had arrived in New Delhi a day earlier to attend the ceremony. Photographs of their arrival at the airport had gone viral on social media.
Recognition for a Legendary Career
Mammootty received the Padma Bhushan for his remarkable contribution to Indian cinema. He has acted in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada films and remains one of the most respected actors in the country. The actor has won three National Film Awards for Best Actor and several Kerala State Film Awards during his career.
In 1998, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri. Nearly three decades later, he has now been elevated to the Padma Bhushan.
One of Malayalam Cinema’s Greatest Icons
Mammootty began his film journey with a small role in the movie Anubhavangal Paalichakal. Over the years, he built a remarkable career through powerful performances and memorable characters. His work has earned appreciation across languages and generations, making him one of the biggest icons of Indian cinema.
The Padma Bhushan marks another milestone in the career of the actor, whose contribution to cinema continues to inspire audiences and filmmakers alike.
