India observed Police Commemoration Day on October 21, 2026, to honour police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. The day remembers ten Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel who were killed in an ambush by Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Ladakh on October 21, 1959.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid tribute to the fallen personnel, remembering their courage, sacrifice and dedication to the nation. Shah also presided over a commemorative parade in New Delhi as part of the observance.
During the event, a motorcycle rally involving 90 riders was flagged off as part of an anti-drug awareness campaign. The rally was headed towards Gujarat and highlighted efforts to spread awareness about drug abuse.
Leaders from the Indian National Congress and chief ministers from various states also joined in honouring the martyrs. Their tributes recognised the sacrifices made by police personnel in protecting citizens, maintaining law and order, and safeguarding national security.
Police Commemoration Day serves as a reminder of the risks faced by police forces while carrying out their duties. The annual observance honours those who made the ultimate sacrifice and recognises the commitment of police personnel across the country.
