A 19-year-old student from Bihar has been arrested by the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Police for allegedly hacking the accounts of NEET UG 2026 candidates and diverting refund payments meant for students.
According to investigators, the accused allegedly targeted hundreds of candidate accounts by exploiting weak passwords and security vulnerabilities, leading to a major cyber fraud case linked to the national medical entrance examination.
NEET UG 2026 Cyber Fraud Case Uncovered
Police said the accused allegedly attempted to access around 350 NEET UG 2026 candidate accounts and successfully gained unauthorized access to approximately 150 accounts.
Investigators claim that after obtaining access, he modified bank account details registered on the candidates’ profiles and redirected refund amounts into accounts under his control.
The alleged fraud affected students who were expecting refunds related to examination processes.
Weak Passwords and Security Gaps Exploited
According to officials, the accused reportedly took advantage of weak passwords and security loopholes to gain access to candidate accounts.
Cybercrime experts often warn students against using easily guessable passwords and recommend enabling additional security measures wherever available.
Authorities are now examining whether any additional individuals were involved in the operation.
NTA Security Systems Helped Detect Fraud
The fraud was reportedly detected with assistance from security monitoring systems maintained by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
Unusual account activity and refund-related discrepancies triggered alerts, helping investigators identify the suspected breach and trace the accused.
Officials say prompt detection helped prevent further unauthorized transactions.

The accused has been booked under relevant cybercrime and fraud provisions.
