Chennai: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a weather alert for several parts of Tamil Nadu, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds in the coming days. Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious as unstable weather conditions are expected across multiple districts.
According to the latest forecast, nine districts in Tamil Nadu are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by moderate to heavy rainfall. Theni is expected to receive heavy rain, while Chennai and nearby regions may witness light to moderate showers along with cloudy skies.
Weather officials have also warned of *strong winds reaching speeds of up to 60 kmph in coastal and sea regions. As a precaution, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the affected waters until weather conditions improve.
The rainfall is expected to bring temporary relief from the recent heat in several parts of the state. However, authorities have cautioned that thunderstorms and lightning could disrupt normal life in some areas, especially during evening and night hours.
Disaster management teams and local administrations have been asked to remain on alert and monitor weather developments closely. Residents are advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid open areas, and follow official weather updates.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) continues to monitor the situation and may issue further advisories depending on changes in weather conditions.
With the monsoon season becoming active in parts of South India, weather experts expect intermittent rainfall across Tamil Nadu over the next few days.
