Chennai: Tamil Nadu Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin has strongly criticised the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), alleging that repeated irregularities have affected students and their families.
Expressing concern over recent student deaths reportedly linked to exam-related stress, Udhayanidhi said NEET has become a major burden for many aspirants. He argued that the examination has failed to provide equal opportunities for students from different educational and social backgrounds.
The DMK leader alleged that repeated controversies surrounding NEET, including reports of examination irregularities and malpractice, have weakened public confidence in the system. He urged the Central Government to abolish NEET and introduce an alternative admission process that he said would be more fair and inclusive.
Udhayanidhi also called on the Tamil Nadu government to continue the legal efforts initiated by previous administrations seeking exemption from NEET. According to him, the fight against the examination should continue through legal and democratic means.
At the same time, he appealed to students not to lose hope and asked them not to take extreme decisions due to examination pressure. He urged students to seek support from parents, teachers and friends during difficult times.
NEET remains a major political issue in Tamil Nadu, with several parties continuing to demand reforms or exemption from the examination. The debate has once again intensified following recent incidents involving students and renewed discussions on the impact of competitive entrance exams on mental health.
