DMK Passes Key Resolutions After Tamil Nadu Hung Assembly Verdict, Grants Stalin Authority for Political Decisions

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam held its legislative members meeting on May 7, 2026, and passed several important resolutions following the Tamil Nadu Assembly election results.

The meeting took place after the state witnessed a hung Assembly verdict, with no political party securing a clear majority to independently form the government. During the meeting, the DMK leadership discussed the election outcome, alliance developments, and the future political situation in Tamil Nadu.

DMK Thanks Tamil Nadu Voters

In its first resolution, the DMK thanked the people of Tamil Nadu and alliance workers for supporting the secular progressive alliance during the Assembly elections.

According to the party, the alliance secured more than 1.54 crore votes across the state. The resolution stated that the strong vote share reflects continued public trust in the Dravidian movement and the party’s long-standing connection with the people.

The party also pointed out that the vote percentage gap between the DMK alliance and the leading front was only 3.52 percent. The resolution claimed this shows that public support for the DMK remains strong despite the party not securing enough seats to form the government on its own.

The resolution further reaffirmed the party’s ideological roots under leaders like C. N. Annadurai and M. Karunanidhi.

DMK Praises M.K. Stalin’s Leadership

The second resolution focused entirely on praising the leadership of M. K. Stalin.

The party credited Stalin for strengthening Tamil Nadu over the past five years through welfare schemes, infrastructure growth, and social development programs. The resolution described his governance as a “Dravidian model” that improved the state’s standing at the national level.

DMK legislators also highlighted Stalin’s extensive election campaign efforts. According to the resolution, he traveled across Tamil Nadu, participated in public meetings, interacted directly with lakhs of people, and led the party during a challenging political environment.

The party thanked Stalin for his role in maintaining the strength and identity of the DMK movement.

Stalin Given Authority to Take Political Decisions

One of the biggest outcomes of the meeting was the passage of a resolution granting Stalin authority to take urgent political and administrative decisions.

The party said Tamil Nadu is currently facing a complex political situation because no party has secured a majority in the Assembly. The resolution stressed the importance of ensuring a stable government in the state without forcing another election.

The DMK also stated that the welfare schemes introduced during its government should continue without interruption. The resolution added that communal forces should not be allowed to gain political space in Tamil Nadu.

With this resolution, Stalin has been given the responsibility to study the evolving political situation and make immediate decisions on behalf of the party.

DMK Attacks Congress Over Alliance Exit

The fourth resolution strongly criticized the Indian National Congress for withdrawing from the secular progressive alliance after the election.

The DMK accused Congress of betraying the alliance despite receiving electoral benefits through seat-sharing arrangements and political support. The resolution claimed Congress leaders failed to control anti-alliance activities during the campaign period.

The party also referred to developments in Puducherry, alleging that Congress candidates contested against DMK-backed candidates even while alliance discussions were ongoing.

The DMK described Congress’ post-election decisions as a betrayal of friendly and secular political forces.

Political Uncertainty Continues in Tamil Nadu

The resolutions passed during the DMK legislative meeting clearly show that the party is preparing for an intense political phase in Tamil Nadu following the hung Assembly verdict.

With government formation discussions continuing and alliance equations changing rapidly, all eyes are now on the next political moves by M.K. Stalin and other major parties in the state.
