Security has been strengthened around Katra and the Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage route ahead of the Navratri rush.
More than 500 AI-enabled cameras have been installed across Katra and along the pilgrimage route. The cameras are connected to an Integrated Command and Control Centre.
Officials said the system will help monitor crowds in real time and identify suspicious activity. It can also alert authorities about unattended baggage and other security concerns.
A facial recognition system has also been introduced as part of the enhanced security arrangements.
Police have increased security checks and traffic management measures at key locations in Katra. The arrangements are aimed at helping pilgrims move safely during the festival period.
The Vaishno Devi shrine attracts large numbers of devotees during Navratri. Authorities are therefore using technology to monitor crowd movement and respond quickly to emergencies.
The new system is expected to help officials identify overcrowded areas and manage the movement of pilgrims more effectively.
