Priyadarshini Scheme Starts in Kerala: Key Facts You Should Know

Kerala has launched the Priyadarshini Scheme, providing free travel for women and transgender persons on eligible KSRTC buses across the state.

🔹 Who Can Travel Free?
All women and transgender persons, regardless of age.

🔹 When Did the Scheme Start?
The scheme officially came into effect today after being inaugurated by Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan in Thiruvananthapuram.

🔹 Which Buses Are Covered?
Free travel is available on more than 3,100 KSRTC buses, including:

  • Ordinary
  • City Ordinary
  • Limited Stop Ordinary
  • Gramavandi
  • Point-to-Point
  • Town-to-Town services

Is Any Special Card Needed?
No. Passengers do not need any special card, registration, or certificate.

How Does It Work?
Passengers must collect a zero-fare ticket from the conductor for every journey. All trips will be recorded digitally through electronic ticket machines.

How Much Will It Cost the Government?
The Kerala Government will fully fund the scheme, with an estimated cost of around ₹800 crore per year.

What Is the Aim of the Scheme?
The initiative is designed to reduce travel expenses and improve access to education, employment, healthcare, and other opportunities for women and transgender persons.

Why Is It Important?
The government believes the scheme will provide financial relief to lakhs of daily commuters and encourage greater participation of women in work, education, skill development, and business activities across Kerala.
