New Twist in CM Vijay–Sangeetha Divorce Case: What Happened in Court?

CHENGALPATTU: The divorce case involving Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay and his wife Sangeetha witnessed fresh developments during the latest hearing, with the court raising questions regarding procedural compliance and postponing further proceedings.

During the hearing, the judge questioned why a valid Vakalatnama (authorization for legal representation) had not been filed by Sangeetha’s counsel. The court also dismissed a petition seeking permission for appearance through video conference.

In addition, both the petitioner and the respondent were directed to submit their email IDs to the court. Following these developments, the case was adjourned to August 7, 2026, for further hearing.

The case has attracted significant public attention due to Vijay’s dual role as Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister and one of the state’s most influential political figures. While Vijay continues to focus on governance and political activities, developments in his personal life have remained under public and media scrutiny.

Vijay and Sangeetha were married for several years and were often seen together during important public events, film functions, and social initiatives. However, reports of differences between the couple have surfaced in recent years, eventually leading to the ongoing legal proceedings.

Politically, the case comes at a time when Vijay is actively expanding his influence across Tamil Nadu and strengthening his position ahead of future electoral battles. Despite the personal challenges, there has been no visible impact on his public engagements or administrative responsibilities.

Legal experts note that family court proceedings often involve multiple procedural stages before final decisions are reached. As a result, the focus will now shift to the next hearing scheduled for August 7, when the court is expected to review the required submissions and hear further arguments from both sides.

For now, the case remains under judicial consideration, with both legal and political circles closely watching the developments.
