Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is set to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, in an effort to attract global investments to the state, according to an NDTV report.
If the visit takes place, Vijay will become the first sitting Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu to attend the global economic gathering. Earlier, former Tamil Nadu Industries Ministers Thangam Thennarasu and TRB Rajaa had visited Davos to explore investment opportunities.
TVK spokesperson M. Sathyakumar told NDTV that the visit would bring greater global attention to Tamil Nadu and help attract large investments. He also said the state government was working to turn existing investment commitments into active projects.
The proposed visit comes amid opposition criticism that Tamil Nadu is losing investment opportunities to other states. The ruling TVK has also accused the Union government of favouring Andhra Pradesh in investment-related matters. However, the BJP has denied these allegations.
Sathyakumar alleged that the Centre and the Ministry of External Affairs were not providing enough support to Tamil Nadu’s efforts to attract foreign investors. He also claimed that the state had secured investment commitments worth ₹1 lakh crore.
The government is also focusing on encouraging existing industries in Tamil Nadu to expand their operations while attracting new investors.
Vijay’s proposed Davos visit is expected to be an important part of the state’s efforts to strengthen its global investment outreach.
