UPI Payments Expand Across France, Now Available at Eiffel Tower and Major Airports

Paris, June 15, 2026 — India’s digital payment network continues its global expansion as UPI Payments France becomes available at the Eiffel Tower and major French airports, making transactions easier for Indian travelers.

The announcement came during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to France, where India and France signed multiple agreements covering technology, trade, innovation, and digital cooperation.

UPI Payments France Reach Major Tourist Destinations

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that UPI services are now operational at the Eiffel Tower.

Moreover, launches are planned at major French airports, including:

  • Charles de Gaulle Airport, Paris
  • Nice Côte d’Azur Airport

The expansion aims to provide seamless payment options for Indian tourists, students, and business travelers visiting France.

Boost for Indian Travelers

The UPI Payments France rollout allows users to make digital payments directly through supported Indian payment applications.

As a result, travelers can avoid currency exchange hassles and enjoy faster transactions at participating locations.

Officials believe the move will improve convenience for the growing number of Indians visiting France each year.

India and France Strengthen Digital Cooperation

The latest expansion follows discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron.

Both countries recently signed agreements covering artificial intelligence, innovation, trade, and digital connectivity.

Furthermore, the UPI expansion reflects growing cooperation in financial technology and digital infrastructure.

India’s Digital Payment System Goes Global

UPI, launched in India in 2016, has transformed digital transactions by enabling instant bank-to-bank payments through mobile devices.

The payment system made its debut in France at the Eiffel Tower in February 2024.

Since then, India has continued efforts to expand UPI internationally and showcase its digital public infrastructure model globally.

Experts say the latest rollout strengthens India’s position as a leader in digital payments while offering practical benefits to travelers abroad.
