Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh High Court has cleared the way for local body elections in the state. The court said authorities should not delay the polls because of the BC reservation issue.
The court directed officials to complete the election process within two months. It also asked the government and election authorities to submit the required details.
The case relates to reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) in local body elections. BC Jana Sabha had approached the court seeking reservations based on fresh data.
During the hearing, the state government informed the court that a dedicated commission is studying the issue. The government also said it is conducting a BC survey.
The High Court noted the government’s submission and allowed the election process to move forward. The issue of BC reservations will continue under review.
This decision paves the way for long-pending local body elections in Andhra Pradesh.
