Varanasi, June 22, 2026: A NEET aspirant was taken into custody in Varanasi after security officials found a SIM card and an old medical entrance exam question paper hidden inside his undergarment before the examination.
The incident took place at Harishchandra Post Graduate College in Maidagin before the NEET re-examination began. According to reports, security personnel became suspicious during the routine checking process. They conducted a detailed inspection and found the SIM card concealed on the student. Officials also recovered an old question paper related to a medical entrance examination. Police immediately took the student into custody and launched an investigation.

In a separate incident in Bihar’s Khagaria district, police arrested nine people for allegedly impersonating candidates during the NEET re-examination. Authorities said some individuals appeared for the exam on behalf of registered candidates.
Meanwhile, in Hyderabad, police caught an 18-year-old student who allegedly tried to cheat during the examination. Investigators said he had hidden a smartphone inside a toilet flush tank at the examination centre.
The student reportedly entered the restroom during the exam and attempted to search for answers online. Invigilators became suspicious after he spent an unusually long time inside the restroom. A search led to the recovery of the phone.
Police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Public Examinations Act, 2024.
NTA Calls Exam Successful
Despite these incidents, the National Testing Agency (NTA) said the NEET re-examination was conducted successfully. The re-exam was held following the controversy surrounding the earlier NEET question paper leak. Around 20 lakh students appeared for the examination across India.
Officials said the exam was conducted at approximately 5,440 centres across the country, along with 14 overseas centres. The NTA is expected to announce the results earlier than usual.
