George Kurian Resigns as Union Minister After Rajya Sabha Term Ends

Senior BJP leader George Kurian has resigned as Union Minister of State after completing his Rajya Sabha term. President Droupadi Murmu accepted the resignation on the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He served as Minister of State for Minority Affairs and Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying in the Narendra Modi government. Earlier, he took oath as a minister on June 9, 2024.

Who is George Kurian?

George Kurian is a senior BJP leader from Kerala. Born on September 20, 1960, in Nambiakulam near Ettumanoor in Kottayam district, he built a long political career within the party. After completing his education in Kerala, he earned a postgraduate degree in Law. Later, he practiced as an advocate in the Supreme Court of India.

Since joining the BJP in 1980, Kurian has remained an active member of the party. Over the years, he handled several important responsibilities. For example, he served as Vice-Chairman of the National Commission for Minorities. In addition, he worked as Officer on Special Duty to former Union Minister O. Rajagopal.
