Gujarat Lion Cubs: Three Die in One Day in Amreli

Amreli: Three Asiatic lion cubs died at different locations in Gujarat’s Amreli district on Friday, raising concerns among wildlife officials and conservationists. The Forest Department has launched an investigation to determine the cause of each death.

The deaths occurred in separate incidents across the district, prompting officials to begin detailed inquiries and post-mortem examinations.

Lion Cub Found Dead in Dalkhaniya

Forest officials found the carcass of a lion cub in the revenue area of Dalkhaniya village under suspicious circumstances.

Officials suspect possible poaching, although they have not confirmed the exact cause. A Forest Department team reached the spot and began an investigation.

Newborn Cub Dies in Hamapur

On the same day, another lion cub, believed to be only two or three days old, was found dead in Hamapur village of Bagsara taluka. Forest officials have started an inquiry to determine what caused the cub’s death.

Third Cub Dies After Lion Conflict

A third lion cub died in the Paniya Range following a conflict between lions.

Range Forest Officer Hina Patel said officials have secured the lioness linked to the incident. They also sent the cub’s body for a post-mortem examination. The exact cause of death will become clear after the report is completed.

Wildlife Activists Demand Inquiry

The deaths of three lion cubs in a single day have alarmed wildlife lovers and conservation groups. Wildlife activist Himanshu Bhatt described the incident as serious and demanded an independent, high-level investigation. He also alleged that similar incidents had not always received enough attention in the past.

Forest Department Continues Investigation

The Forest Department is examining all possible causes behind the deaths. Officials are waiting for the post-mortem reports before reaching any conclusions. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are expected to release more details after completing the inquiry.
