Abishek Porel Rape Case: Calcutta High Court Orders Arrest of Delhi Capitals Cricketer

The Calcutta High Court has directed the police to arrest Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel in connection with a rape case registered in Hooghly, West Bengal. The court issued the order after hearing a petition related to an FIR filed last month. The next hearing in the case has been scheduled for August 11.

Abishek Porel Rape Case

The case was registered after a complaint was filed by a medical student from Karnataka. According to the FIR, the complainant alleged that Abishek Porel entered into a physical relationship with her after promising marriage.

She further alleged that he later assaulted her, recorded intimate videos without her consent and used those videos to blackmail and threaten her.

The FIR includes non-bailable charges of rape, assault and criminal intimidation.

High Court Directs Police Action

The Calcutta High Court directed the investigating officers to arrest Abishek Porel and continue the investigation.

The court also instructed the police to seize his electronic devices as part of the investigation. In addition, the court directed authorities to protect the complainant’s identity and privacy during the legal process.

Police are expected to submit further details when the matter comes up for hearing on August 11.

Abishek Porel Denies Allegations

Abishek Porel had earlier denied the allegations after the case became public in June. He described the accusations as baseless.

According to the latest reports, Porel has not yet been arrested and police are continuing efforts to locate him following the High Court’s direction.

The allegations made in the FIR are under investigation, and the court has not reached any conclusion regarding his guilt.

Investigation Continues

The investigation is being carried out by the West Bengal Police. Officials are expected to examine digital evidence and other materials collected during the probe.

The outcome of the investigation and the court proceedings will determine the next legal steps in the case.
