Many Airtel customers have expressed frustration over the company’s unlimited 5G hotspot policy. Airtel 5G Hotspot Limit Explained
According to Airtel’s terms and conditions, unlimited 5G data is available only on the primary 5G smartphone connected to the network.
When users enable a mobile hotspot to share their internet connection with other devices, the data is deducted from their regular daily high-speed data allowance, such as 1.5GB or 2GB plans, instead of the unlimited 5G quota.
In addition, Airtel applies a monthly fair usage limit of up to 300GB on eligible unlimited 5G plans. After reaching this limit, internet speeds may be reduced according to the company’s policy.
Users Express Disappointment
Several Airtel customers have taken to social media to express disappointment over the hotspot restriction.
Some users said advertisements promoting unlimited 5G do not clearly explain that hotspot usage follows different rules. Others shared workarounds using third-party apps or device settings to bypass the restriction, while some threatened to switch to another telecom operator.
Many users have also called for clearer communication so customers fully understand the terms before choosing a plan.
TRAI Transparency Demands
The discussion has also led to calls for the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to introduce clearer guidelines on how telecom companies advertise unlimited 5G services.
Some users believe the definition of “unlimited” should be explained more clearly in promotional campaigns to avoid confusion.
Jio Follows a Similar Policy
The issue is not limited to Airtel. Several users pointed out that Reliance Jio also follows a similar policy for unlimited 5G hotspot usage under certain plans.
Supporters of the policy argue that telecom operators have invested heavily in expanding 5G infrastructure and need fair usage rules to manage network performance for all customers.
The debate continues online as users seek greater transparency, while telecom companies maintain that the policy is clearly mentioned in their terms and conditions.
