FY26 Investment Proposals: Maharashtra Leads, Andhra Pradesh Climbs to Second

FY26 Investment Proposals Show Strong Competition Among States

The latest FY26 investment proposals highlight strong competition among Indian states to attract new industries and technology projects. Maharashtra has secured the top position with around ₹11 lakh crore in announced investment proposals, making it the biggest destination for fresh investments during the financial year. Andhra Pradesh has climbed to the second position, reflecting growing investor confidence and the state’s efforts to attract large-scale projects. These FY26 investment proposals represent announced investments and may not reflect the final amount invested or completed projects.

Supporters in Andhra Pradesh credit recent political changes and the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan for helping attract major investment commitments. They point to nearly ₹41,000 crore in concessions offered for strategic projects, including Google’s proposed AI hub in Visakhapatnam. The state has also focused on improving infrastructure, industrial policies, and investor-friendly governance to attract global companies across multiple sectors.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu ranks tenth with ₹2.29 lakh crore in announced investment proposals. While the investment value is lower than some other states, Tamil Nadu is focusing on building a long-term innovation ecosystem instead of only attracting large investment announcements. The state is developing an AI City near Chennai, which will include research centres, universities, residential facilities, and technology parks. Tamil Nadu is also working with the National University of Singapore on the Tamil Large Language Models initiative to strengthen artificial intelligence research and language technology.

In addition, Chennai continues to lead India’s Global Capability Centre (GCC) growth, accounting for 24.5% of new GCC expansion. This reflects the city’s strength in information technology, engineering services, research, and global business operations. Many multinational companies continue to choose Chennai because of its skilled workforce, strong infrastructure, and growing innovation ecosystem.

The latest FY26 investment proposals show that states are following different strategies to attract investments. Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh are focusing on securing large investment commitments through supportive policies and incentives, while Tamil Nadu is investing in research, artificial intelligence, higher education, and long-term industrial development. Each model aims to create jobs, improve infrastructure, and strengthen economic growth over the coming years.

Since these figures are based on announced proposals, the actual success of each state will depend on how quickly projects are implemented and investments are converted into operational industries. The coming years will provide a clearer picture of which investment strategy delivers the strongest economic growth, employment opportunities, and sustainable development.
