India is celebrating Teachers’ Day 2026 on September 5, marking the birth anniversary of former President and renowned educationist Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was born on September 5, 1888. On this special occasion, leaders and organisations across the country have extended their greetings and thanked teachers for their contribution to education and nation-building.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised teachers for their important role in shaping India’s future. Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy also extended his wishes to teachers, highlighting their role in guiding students and building the next generation.
Messages were also shared from the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Office, while Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan used Sanskrit verses highlighting the importance of curiosity, learning and character. The messages reflected the wider importance of teachers not only in classrooms but also in shaping the values and confidence of young people.
The sports community also joined the celebrations. Royal Challengers Bengaluru expressed its gratitude to coaches and mentors, recognising their role in guiding players and helping them improve both on and off the field. Across social media, students, former students and members of the public shared simple messages of appreciation, with many using the occasion to say, “Thank you, teachers.”
A major part of this year’s celebrations is the presentation of the National Teachers’ Awards. President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to present the awards to 48 outstanding school educators in New Delhi. The awards recognise teachers for their dedication, innovative teaching methods and contribution to the development of students.
Teachers’ Day 2026 once again highlights the lasting influence of educators in society. From schools and colleges to sports academies and other learning spaces, teachers and mentors play an important role in helping people develop knowledge, confidence and character.
