Heavy rain caused severe waterlogging at Bengaluru’s Panathur underbridge on October 16, disrupting traffic and leaving vehicles stranded. The underbridge connects residential areas around Whitefield with the Outer Ring Road and major IT offices. The flooding affected commuters travelling through the busy area.
Rain lashed east, southeast and central Bengaluru, bringing relief from the heat but creating traffic problems in several locations. Traffic police wearing orange safety gear directed motorists towards alternate routes to manage the situation and reduce congestion.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bengaluru received 32 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours before the report. The weather agency also warned of more thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds, raising concerns about further waterlogging.
Panathur underbridge has faced repeated flooding during heavy rainfall because of its low-lying location. Residents have reportedly urged railway and civic authorities to find a permanent solution to the drainage problem.
The recurring waterlogging creates difficulties for daily commuters, particularly employees travelling to offices along the Outer Ring Road. Vehicles moving through flooded stretches also face delays and potential risks.
With more showers forecast, motorists have been advised to plan their journeys carefully and consider alternate routes where necessary. A lasting drainage solution remains important to prevent the same problem from disrupting traffic during future rain spells.
