Kalaburagi: MLC Election Results Deliver a Slap in the Face to the Government

Kalaburagi:Well-educated graduates and teachers have delivered a fitting response to the state government’s arbitrary schemes and decisions, particularly its arrogance on various issues, by voting decisively in the elections to the four Legislative Council seats, said N. Ravikumar, Chief Whip of the Karnataka Legislative Council.

Speaking at a press conference, he said the Congress had secured somewhat favourable results in the Lok Sabha elections and state Assembly by-elections. However, the ruling Congress had now received a strong setback, with the BJP-NDA alliance winning all four seats—two teachers’ constituency seats and two graduates’ constituency seats. Ravikumar explained that the BJP had lost all five Lok Sabha constituencies in the Kalyana Karnataka region. However, the BJP’s historic victory in the North East Teachers’ Constituency, along with the alliance’s victory in all four MLC seats across the state, had emerged as an indicator of the political direction ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections.

He said the electorate had delivered a fitting response to the government’s anti-people decisions, including those taken by the Cabinet. He added that talented and educated voters had rejected the government’s systematic attempts to divert public attention to unrelated issues while ignoring people’s problems and concealing its administrative failures.

Ravikumar said the election results in the Kalyana Karnataka region had delivered a strong message to AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, who, he alleged, spent his time criticising the Union government and mocking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and State Minister for IT and Biotechnology Priyank Kharge, who, he claimed, had neglected his departmental responsibilities while treating criticism of the Centre as an achievement. He added that teachers had retaliated through their votes against decisions such as announcing the cancellation of Hindi as a subject on the day of an examination and showing disregard for the third language. MLC Shashil G. Namoshi said teachers had expressed their confidence in him by electing him for the fifth time. He promised to work in accordance with their expectations. He said the results reflected the electorate’s rejection of the government’s poor decisions and conduct and served as an indication of the outcome of the 2028 elections.

“The BJP-JD(S) alliance’s victory in all four MLC constituencies is the electorate’s response to the Congress government’s misrule. The alliance will clearly take the reins of power again in 2028. Notably, the BJP and JD(S) worked together as an alliance in this election.”— Doddappagouda Patil Naribol, JD(S) State Working President
