The Tamil Nadu government has announced a five-year increase in the upper age limit for direct recruitment to government jobs, offering relief to thousands of job aspirants. The revised age limit will take effect from October 30, 2026, and will apply to recruitment examinations conducted by various government departments and recruitment boards.
The decision covers major Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) examinations, including Group 1, Group 2 and Group 4. It aims to help candidates who have faced difficulties meeting age requirements due to delays in recruitment and examination schedules.
For candidates belonging to the general category, the upper age limit for Group 1 posts has reportedly increased from 32 to 37 years. For Group 2 posts, the limit has increased from 30 to 35 years, according to the announcement.
Candidates from reserved categories and persons with disabilities will also receive benefits under the revised age limits, while the existing reservation system will continue.
The decision addresses a long-standing demand from government job aspirants who have spent years preparing for competitive examinations. Delays in recruitment notifications and examinations have caused some candidates to risk losing eligibility because of age restrictions.
The revised rules are expected to give eligible candidates additional time to prepare and apply for government positions. Applicants should check the latest recruitment notifications and official government orders for the exact age limits applicable to their category and post.
