Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar have assured action following complaints that Kannadigas are being denied job opportunities in Bengaluru’s information technology and biotechnology (IT-BT) sectors. The state government has said it will address the concerns through official channels and protect the interests of local job seekers.
D.K. Shivakumar and the Chief Minister’s Office reportedly assured that complaints about employment discrimination would be taken up directly. They also urged Kannada groups not to confront companies or take matters into their own hands. Instead, the government would communicate with the companies and issue warnings wherever necessary.
The development comes amid social media allegations that some Bengaluru-based companies prefer candidates from outside Karnataka over local applicants. These claims have triggered discussions about employment opportunities for Kannadigas in the state’s growing technology sector.
The issue has gained attention ahead of Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations on November 1. As part of the preparations, the government is reportedly planning workshops to help newcomers understand Kannada language and culture. Special arrangements, including traffic signals displaying Karnataka flag colours, are also part of the celebrations.
The debate has brought attention to the need to balance employment opportunities for local candidates, skill development and Bengaluru’s position as a major destination for technology companies. The state government’s response is expected to address complaints while encouraging companies to follow fair recruitment practices.
