Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha on Saturday criticised YSRCP leaders after they were stopped by Amaravati farmers during their visit to the capital region. She questioned the party’s intention behind the visit and alleged that the leaders had no moral right to visit Amaravati.
The remarks came after tension erupted when YSRCP leaders attempted to visit Penumaka village, where a group of farmers protested against their arrival.
Anitha Questions YSRCP’s Intentions
Addressing the media, Anitha asked whether YSRCP leaders had gone to support farmers or to create trouble in Amaravati. She claimed that the police had already informed the YSRCP leaders that their visit could lead to law and order issues. According to her, nearly 90 percent of the farmers in Penumaka had voluntarily given their land for the Amaravati capital project.
Government to Probe the Incident
The Home Minister alleged that several people accompanying the YSRCP leaders had criminal backgrounds. She said the government has information about those who participated in the visit. Anitha confirmed that the police would investigate the complaint filed by YSRCP leaders as well as the incident that took place in Amaravati.
Amaravati Project Moving Ahead
The Home Minister said the state government is working day and night to complete the Amaravati capital project by 2027. She accused the previous YSRCP government of creating uncertainty through its three-capitals proposal after initially supporting Amaravati as the state capital. According to Anitha, some political groups are trying to create obstacles because the completion of Amaravati would strengthen the state’s development.
Farmers, Not TDP Workers, Stopped YSRCP Leaders
Anitha said Amaravati farmers themselves stopped the YSRCP leaders and denied allegations that Telugu Desam Party workers were behind the protest. She also alleged that some people involved in earlier attacks on the TDP office were present during the latest incident. She claimed the government has video evidence and would examine all aspects of the case.
Government Assures Fair Investigation
The Home Minister said the Andhra Pradesh government has taken the matter seriously and promised a fair investigation. She added that the government would act according to the findings of the inquiry while ensuring law and order in the Amaravati capital region.
