Guntur, Andhra Pradesh: The Guntur Woman Assault case has shocked Andhra Pradesh after a woman was allegedly dragged, stripped, and beaten during a dispute over a damaged borewell in Krishna Babu Colony. The incident took place on July 15 and has sparked widespread public outrage.
According to police, the dispute began after an argument between neighbours over reinstalling a borewell that had reportedly been damaged during municipal works. What started as a local disagreement soon turned violent, leading to the alleged assault on the woman.
Police launched an investigation and arrested nine people in connection with the case. Those arrested include Telugu Desam Party (TDP) ward secretary Mallela Venkata Ramana Murthy, his wife, Thammisetti Venkatesh alias Madhavi, a transgender person, and several others.
The accused have been booked under multiple sections, including house trespass, outraging the modesty of a woman, voluntarily causing hurt, and other relevant provisions of law. Police said the investigation is continuing and further legal action will be taken based on the evidence collected.
Reacting to the Guntur Woman Assault case, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu described the incident as “completely unacceptable” and directed officials to take strict action without showing favoritism to anyone. He said that every person involved should face the law, regardless of their political or personal background.
Following the incident, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) announced the suspension of Mallela Venkata Ramana Murthy from the party. Government officials also said there would be zero tolerance for crimes against women and assured that the investigation would be conducted fairly.
The incident has triggered strong reactions across the state, with many demanding quick justice for the victim and strict punishment for those responsible. Police have increased security in the area as the investigation continues.
