Bengaluru, Karnataka: A BMTC Electric Bus Crash claimed the life of an auto driver in Bengaluru on Saturday after a city bus reportedly rammed into his vehicle near KR Circle on Sheshadri Road. The incident has once again raised concerns over the safety of BMTC electric buses operating on busy city roads.
According to police, the BMTC electric bus was travelling from Majestic to Chandapura when it allegedly hit the auto driven by Krishnamurthy. After crashing into the auto, the bus continued moving before hitting an electric pole and uprooting a roadside tree.
Local residents and passers-by rushed to help the injured driver and shifted him to St. Martha’s Hospital for treatment. However, doctors declared him dead despite efforts to save his life.
Following the BMTC Electric Bus Crash, police detained the bus driver for questioning. The driver reportedly told investigators that the accident happened because of brake failure. Authorities are now verifying this claim as part of the investigation.
Police said technical experts have been called to inspect the vehicle. Officials are also examining CCTV footage, the bus’s maintenance records, and operational logs to determine the exact cause of the accident.
The crash has drawn attention because it is the second major accident reported at the same location in recent weeks. Residents have expressed concerns over the speed of BMTC electric buses, driver training, and vehicle maintenance, especially on busy Bengaluru roads.
Police said the investigation is continuing, and appropriate legal action will be taken after the technical inspection and evidence review are completed.
